Our Mission

BlindSight Delaware is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the independence and quality of life for blind and visually impaired adults and children in Delaware.

History

BlindSight Delaware is proud to have served the blind and visually impaired community of Delaware for more than 70 years.

  • 1909 – Commission for the Blind founded by Reginald Van Trump.
  • 1948 – Commission split and formed two entities: Delaware Association for the Blind (BlindSight) and Delaware Division for the Visually Impaired.
  • 1957 – Mrs. Irenee DuPont donated the Landis Lodge building, originally constructed in 1930 and moved to current location on Newport Gap Pike.
  • 1968 – Acquired 802 West St. in Wilmington.
  • 2007 – Acquired adjoining property to Landis Lodge from State of Delaware.
  • 2011 – Landis Lodge raised $1 million in capital campaign funds for building renovations. Specialty store moved to Landis Lodge.
  • 2015 – Delaware Association for the Blind changed its name to BlindSight Delaware. West Street properties sold.
